Mariella Logo
The logo I chose to create into a stamp, is a figure of a dog. It is simple, yet doesn't fail to express necessary information about myself. Although this logo could be seen as a graphic logo because the entire figure of the dog isn't visible, I view it as more illustrative. This is because it is a very simple symbol of a dog. When I first began class, I was told to find an image, it could be anything at all. Ideas of what I wanted for my logo popped into my head. I was first looking at certain items, such as a flower, a butterfly, and a tree. Nothing really stuck out to me until or had a direct relation to me until I found a picture of a dog. I chose this dog because of my love for them and I felt as though this might be something that represents me. Once I found the perfect photo, I then transferred it to photoshop. Here, I made some touch ups and was able to get the outline of the dog. From there, I simply printed it, traced it onto see-through paper, then placed the outline on my stamp. Using tools provided to me in class, I was able to make the stamp appear how I wanted it to. These tools included carving linoleum, tracing paper (this helped me copy my logo onto my carving linoleum), and stamp pads. Once that was finished the final step was to use ink, from the stamp pad, and stamp it on a piece of paper. I was overall very pleased with the final result. This final result pleased me due to its meaning to my personality. I have a love for all animals, especially dogs, and they are of great importance in my life. I am also very pleased that the stamp includes all of the characteristics of a good logo including shape, presence, weight and contrast. The shape of a logo should be distinct as is my logo. The presence of a logo should be capable of covering the maximum space allotted, just as my logo does not fail to do. Also, weight in a logo, such as my own, should be decipherable, and finally the contrast of black and white adds to the good characteristics of my logo. Overall, my logo is straightforward but contains many items which make it a good logo.
For the logo evaluation, I looked into the design and identity of an Adidas logo. It is clear that this logo changed overtime, although it is clear it was attempted to keep a similar look. Adi Dassler was the reason for these changes and touch-ups. He wanted to give his brand a unique look-set it apart from other brands, this being the stripes. They were simple, yet stuck in peoples mind when discussing the name. Adi's logo is what had made his product so popular. In the most recent logo that Adidas has created, they were attempting to give the three stripes some meaning through a graphic look. The three stripes are forming a mountain wanting its buyers to understand challenge and to be able to push themselves to accomplish things such as climbing a mountain. This characteristic of this logo is what makes it more of a graphic logo. It also doesn't fail to use scale and proportion in its logo seen through the three stripes and their relation to a mountain and how the three stripes are different sizes that are forming one entity. To conclude, this logo is definitely appropriate to the look Adidas wishes to convey to its consumer by utilizing certain aspects which make it stand out from the rest.
